What can I offer as your doula?
As your doula, I will assist you in the process of recognizing your unique birth plan, be with you throughout your birthing experience, act as an advocate and support for yourself and your family and document your birth. I will also communicate as needed with friends and family during the process of labor, and meet with you post birth to provide encouragement and informational support.
Ideally, we will meet once or twice before the birth. During this meeting we will have the chance to talk over your ideas and thoughts about the birth, and get to know each other. Birth is an intimate experience, and you should feel comfortable with who you have chosen to be with you during this time.
From two weeks before the due date to two weeks after the due date, I will be on call and available for you 24 hours a day. When labor begins, I will meet with you at your home or your chosen birthing center, and assist you if you move between locations. During the birth I will provide whatever supports are required by you and or your partner, including providing encouragement, advocacy, communicating with friends or family (as required), stepping in if a birth partner needs to take a rest and documenting the birth story through notes and/or photos (if desired).
After the baby is born I will remain with you until you are settled, and provide any follow up that you might need. Several weeks following the birth I will meet with you to welcome your new baby, and to bring you your documented unique birth story. If required I can also provide postpartum doula supports.
What can I bring to your birth experience?
I bring years as a yoga and meditation instructor with me to your birth, and I am committed to providing loving, encouraging and compassionate care that honors and respects your wishes. In my life outside of my doula practice I have a Masters of Social Work, and love working with families and communities. I am passionate about mothers and babies (and dads and siblings too!), and believe that birth is the most beautiful part of our world! I look forward to meeting you, and sharing in this great adventure with your family.
